JCMA WOMEN’S ONLY PROGRAM

 

 

JCMA now offers a Women’s Only program taught by Sigung Jannette Corpus-Casas! This is a great program that not only teaches traditional Kajukenbo, and also includes self-defense, personal weapons training, and a get a great cardio workout. All this in a fun and family oriented atmosphere that will help build your self confidence in the real world.

Come down to Knuckle-Up in Vallejo on Thursdays from 5 – 7 PM to checkout the program. You will be impressed and love it!

We are almost done with the year and it’s already November! There’s so much going on this month including the Annual JCMA & Affiliates-Team Legacy Luncheon on 11/22 12-4:30 pm – Tickets are now available. Please keep in mind that there is limited seating. Buffet is $15 for 12 years and up, $11 for 6yrs-11yrs old. Please contact SP Jerry or Sifu JJ for tickets.

Now on to more good stuff! Our November Featured Student of the Month is…Jacob Valencia! Here is a very dedicated and hard working young man who has a lot of talent and heart. So without further ado here’s Jacob!

How long have you been training at JCMA? 11 months

Describe what has led you to JCMA?

My dad and I checked out another dojo but I didn’t like it. Uncle Ronvi told my dad about JCMA so we checked it out. I tried it out and liked it especially because my friend, Kirin, is in JCMA.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of JCMA?

I enjoy being a part of JCMA because everything that we do teaches me martial arts.

What else do you do when you’re not training at JCMA?

When I’m not in training at JCMA, I exercise and play with my friends and family.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud that I got to learn martial arts and that I met new people and made new friends.

If you had to do a solo demonstration, what would be your theme song?

My theme song would be Immortals from Big Hero 6 by Fall Out Boys.

If you were a star of a martial arts movie, what would be your signature move?

My signature move would be the Blitz.

If you had a super power, what would it be and why?

My super power would be strength so that I can lift and carry a villain if he/she was heavy.

Who is your favorite comic book character and why?

My favorite comic book character is the Hulk because I like it when he says “Hulk SMASH!” when he is angry.

What is your favorite boba or tapioca drink?

My favorite boba drink is Taro from Pho #1 restaurant.

How long have you been training at JCMA?
I’ve been training at JCMA for roughly 1-2 years.

Describe what has led you to JCMA?
My parents wanted me to do something interesting over the summer, and my dad found JCMA through an article.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of JCMA?
I enjoy being in JCMA because it is something different and genuine that I would spend time into.

What else do you do when your not training at JCMA?
I often am busy with school work or playing video games/on the internet in general.

What are you most proud of?
I am the most proud of my many accomplishments that I have made throughout my life, whatever it may have been.

If you had to do a solo demonstration, what would be your theme song?
I personally don’t know how to answer this, and I would prefer doing a solo demonstration in silence because I can concentrate easier.

If you were a star of a martial arts movie, what would be your signature move?
Don’t know how to answer this…

If you had a super power, what would it be and why?
I would like to be able to read minds, because then I can know every intention something has.

Who is your favorite comic book character and why?
Batman, because growing up I watched and read a lot of Batman cartoons and comics.

What are the biggest challenges as a student? As a student my biggest challenge was gaining the discipline and becoming humble.

Instructor? As an instructor my biggest challenge was/is having patience while teaching youngsters.

What keeps you motivated to train? My Ohana

Favorite Japanese form is: Heian Yondan

Greatest satisfaction as an instructor? Knowing that I’m spreading knowledge to students.

What is your favorite color? Blue

If you were an animal, real or fictional, what animal would you be? A Wolf, for sure.

If you had a super power, what would it be and why? I want to be a mind reader

 This month’s JCMA – Kajukenbo Featured Student is no other than the very talented, yet humble Ellamae! If you haven’t seen her in action, she’s a little fireball! Watch out for her kicks when she spars! And now without further delay here’s Ellamae!

Hometown: Lives in Anerican Canyon but parents are originally from Calbayog City, Samar (mom) and Surigao (dad).
 Age: 11 yrs old
How long have you been training at JCMA? About 2 years
Describe what has led you to JCMA? For fun and experience, self defense, and to make friends!
What do you enjoy most about being a part of JCMA?   It makes me feel at home.  JCMA is like my 2nd home.  I can learn karate and at the same time spend time with the members and leaders of the team. I feel safe and loved.
What else do you do when your not training at JCMA? Study, and I have singing and dancing lessons. I also attend CCD classes.
What are you most proud of?  Just being myself.  Being simple and humble.  And to be a good role model to my younger cousins and the youth.
